My Yarn Crawl
There are just times when you need to leave the family behind and indulge the senses. I met Lolly on Saturday and we had an absolute blast! We've decided that we need to do this much more often.
To start the day off with a blast, we went to Zachary's for salad and pizza. With full tummies we went to Piedmont Yarn and Apparel. I don't think they have a website, but the address is: 3966 Piedmont Avenue, Suite 101 in Oakland.
Piedmont carries a great mixture of popular yarn but on the shelves are exquisite skeins of yarn from independent yarn makers and dyers. Best of all, you really have to hunt for acrylic/nylon yarn. I would say about 95% of the shelves are stocked with wool, wool/cotton, alpaca, llama, and cotton. The decor is inviting, relaxed, tidy, and easy to browse. There are also hand-knitted items for sale as well.
Lolly and I met the owner, Bente Peterson, who was most adorable. We had such an enjoyable conversation with her. I didn't get a photo of her but Lolly did. I did, however, get a photo of a charcoal drawing of Bente's great grandmother knitting. It was sketched in 1888 (I believe) when her great grandmother was 9. I was awestruck at the beauty of the sketch I forgot to ask her name. (Note to Bente: if you are reading this, would you leave a comment and let me know her name, please?)
I give Piedmont Yarn and Apparel a thumb's up. Treat yourself to some one-of-a-kind yarn. You won't be disappointed.
